CORPORATE LEADERSHIP COACHING

Who Becomes a Leadership Coaching Client?
Successful executives, managers and leaders who are eager to partner with a professional who is committed to helping them achieve their goals in a more powerful, focused and often faster way than they would on their own. Clients also include individuals who are looking to shift their performance and behaviour to increase their effectiveness and satisfaction in how they earn a living. Some of the typical questions faced by leadership coaching clients are "How can I":

  • best achieve my development goals and progress my career?

  • provide better leadership to my direct reports?

  • manage my time more effectively so that I can accomplish more?

  • learn to adapt to different communication styles?

  • create a personal vision that is aligned with my organization?

  • achieve balance between work and family commitments?

  • learn to interact more effectively with my boss?

  • leverage my strengths to have greater impact?

What is Leadership Coaching?
Coaching expands your capacity to achieve your professional and personal definition of success and create breakthrough results. Additionally, Leadership Coaching aligns the individual's goals and talents with the strategy of the organization.

Leadership Coaching clients are typically sponsored by an organization. Organizations identify "high potentials" that they want to invest in to accelerate their professional development. They also sponsor talented individuals with behaviours that undermine their effectiveness.

The Coach Approach:
Using a simple, yet powerful coaching model, a coach collaborates with clients to optimize their performance, development and fulfillment. In a coaching relationship, clients are supported in discovering their own insights and achieving change from the inside-out. Clients gain new skills and adopt behaviours with more "staying power" than through an approach that involves purely "telling" or advising.

Simply stated, coaching results in transformations. Such transformations have a positive impact for the client, the client's direct team and the broader organization.

What Coaching is Not:
Coaching is not therapy. Therapy brings a depth of understanding and awareness of the past. Coaching is action-based, forward-looking and focused on making changes based on awareness the client already holds.

Coaching is not consulting. In its purest sense, a coach does not provide answers, advice or solutions, instead coaching focuses on guiding clients through discovery of their own answers. From time-to-time, however, a coach may request permission to provide a consultant perspective or to suggest a helpful tool.

Sue has an uncanny ability to bring out the best in me.  Our coaching sessions have given me the clarity of thought that has allowed me to breakthrough the clutter of insignificant day-to-day details, to get to quantum growth results.  I am better focused, fully confident in my abilities and am leading in a manner that I knew I was capable of.  Our time together is invaluable to me.”

What I do as a Coach:

I support my clients in:

  • defining goals and generating ideas about how to achieve them

  • establishing specific action plans

  • dealing with barriers

  • achieving results.

I facilitate my clients' self-discovery by:

  • asking provocative questions

  • providing an objective sounding board

  • challenging them to stretch further and delve deeper

  • giving feedback in a forthright yet compassionate way.

Assessment instruments are often incorporated into the coaching process to help clients to look in the mirror to recognize both individual strengths and behavioural opportunities. I am qualified to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, Thomas International™ (DISC) Personal Profile Analysis and Benchmarks® (360-degree feedback) and other selected instruments.

“Thank you for delivering the results of my 360.  I couldn’t have imagined a better coach.  I have thoroughly enjoyed our work together so far.  There is always a little voice in my head that sounds like you(!) as I work through the never-ending challenges presented to me, helping me to breathe, think, plan, and continue to work from a place of integrity and authenticity”

I have greatly appreciated the insightful expertise that Sue Edward’s has provided me as a I began my new position as Executive Director just over one year ago.  Our regularly scheduled meetings allowed me to get ideas and develop progressive solutions in “real time”.  I was coaching skeptic but now I see a great value in the objective external viewpoint that coaching provides.
