Note from Sue: Who Will You Be in 2010?

Resolutions can be a helpful way of setting goals for the new year. Those of you currently refining your 2010 resolutions may find one of my previous articles From Resolutions to Results to be helpful (see the Quick Links section in the sidebar).

For those of you who don't resonate with the power of resolutions for fostering new commitments, you may prefer to reflect on the question "Who will I be this year?"

This may seem an odd question for a Coach who is a strong advocate for authenticity. Let me be clear... I'm not talking about trying on a new persona like you'd try on a new hat. Instead, I'm referring to your intentions for the genuine personal qualities that you plan to put front and center in the year ahead. What parts of you do you most want to be recognized for? How will you be seen in 2010? What will you emphasize in your own personal brand?

The feature article for this newsletter Creating Your Personal Brand elaborates on this theme.

In the sidebar there's also a link to a new blog post called Your New Job & Your Personal Brand

Those of you who have worked with me over the years will know that I established my niche in Onboarding over 6 years ago and have been focused on my branding in this niche ever since. While my leadership coaching practice is broad-based and includes leadership team coaching, one-on-one coaching at all stages of a leaders' career as well as coaching select business owners, my marketing almost exclusively addresses my niche. This helps to create focus for my speaking engagements (see sidebar) and interactions in social media. As one coach in a sea of coaches, it is more memorable to be known as "Sue, the Onboarding Coach". Thus, my Twitter name is "OnboardingCoach" and I tweet "Onboarding Tips of the Day". The LinkedIn group I started one year ago, Onboarding Best Practices, has grown organically to over 540 members. I like to think the group has been successful because we've kept the conversation tightly focused on Onboarding. (Come join us! See sidebar)

Thanks to my work a few years back with my respected colleague, Paul Copcutt, personal brand strategist and founder of Square Peg Solution, I also know that my personal brand is so much more than what I do. It's also about how. So, I try to remain conscious that it is my passion, genuineness, accessibility and creativity that people see as core to who I am. On my best days... that's how I show up. My reflections for the new year are all about dusting off these qualities and letting them shine through.

I'd love to hear what steps you've taken to shape your own brand... particularly if you are working within a corporation. Pop me a note... rumour has it that I'm accessible!

Here's to YOU in 2010!
