What's Your Worth?
Did you get a sinking feeling reading the subject line for this newsletter? Certainly if your immediate thought is of your financial savings, then no doubt you may experience a cringing feeling associated with the current economic conditions. But how is this definition of "worth" serving you?
My husband and I are meeting with our financial planner shortly... a time to stand back, take stock and then look ahead. In our discussion, we'll talk about our assets, but of course these will only be peripheral assets—mutual funds, education savings plans for the kids, etc. The assets that really matter of course are health, happiness, family, friends and even our new kitten, Chewy.
This newsletter includes articles and resources related to recognizing both your own worth and the worth of others in your organization.
1. My feature article, Claiming Your Worth, is geared particularly for women, but speaks to all of us who can benefit from reminding ourselves of the value of our contributions.
2. Consider the "worth" of the new talent that you are bringing into your organization... particularly at an economic time of downsizing and hiring freezes. This fresh talent is a precious resource! I encourage you to consider a gift that will return its value in spades to both the new hire and your team-- our self-coaching workbook, Wow Them In Your New Job! It's perfect to tuck in The New Employee Welcome Basket alongside your branded company swag.
3. As you reflect on how you will continue to enhance your worth in 2009 ahead, consider what investments you are committed to making in your own growth and development. What goals are you establishing to grow your value as a leader, a team member, a direct report? Many of my clients are now booking their 2009 professional development days, coaching relationships, discussions with mentors and even self-reflection times-- before their calendars fill with the crazed pace of the day-to-day.
Finally, during this holiday season, I encourage you to spend time with the people that bring genuine worth to your life. I wish you and your families a wonderful season of connection and uplifting news during the year ahead. How can you contribute to bringing the spirit of positivity and worth into your home and organization?
